No other destination encapsulates the history of this wonderful City so well and in such an accessible way. Ruled by the Lord Mayor and City Corporation, the historic square mile is bordered by Temple and Holborn Bars in the west, Smithfield and Moorfields to the north, Aldgate and Tower Hill to the east and has the river Thames to the south.
Crammed with Norman churches, medieval houses, the
Museum of London,
Tower Bridge and many winding alleyways which take you into hidden courtyards, lovely old pubs and into spaces where you can enjoy beautiful views of famous buildings, the river, and cemeteries or just to soak up the atmosphere.
The best way to take in the sights is on foot, and we have a number of walks that are free to download, the first of which is From Mansion House to Mad House. If you have always wondered how London came to be a truly great city then this walk is for you. It will take you from the heart of the old City of London, along medieval alleyways, inside ruined churches, past a great fortress and along a wonderful old high street that winds its way beside the River Thames and into the Docklands.
